Madara is the Latvian word for cleavers, a wild flower common to the Baltic, which has been used as a medicinal and pot herb for centuries.
Madara organic skin care products can be traced back to the day the company founder, Lotte, suffered an allergic reaction to conventional eye-cream. Remembering the glorious days of her youth, when her grandmother would lull her to sleep in fields of wild bees and cleavers, she said goodbye to conventional make-up and began developing solutions for a natural lifestyle.
Lotte recalls how the painfully short Baltic summers and dizzy scented fields, representing the natural beauty of her homeland, “got under her skin” from an early age. She began experimenting with various herbs and flowers, developing ingenuous recipes for home-made creams, soaps and lotions. Her passion for the natural lifestyle became a career when she met Zane and Liene, the rest of the Madara team.

Every Madara natural beauty product is certified to international ECOCERT standards. The ECOCERT “Natural and Organic cosmetics” label ensures every Madara natural skin care product is free from raw animal products as well as synthetic perfumes, dyes, preservatives and other harmful chemicals. Animal testing is prohibited, and eco-friendly manufacturing and packaging employed at all stages.
