Akamuti - organic beauty with a powerful message
Akamuti is a family business, which was launched in 2003. Akamuti is a Zambian word which has two meanings: 'little tree' and 'a little piece of medicine'. In many parts of Africa, trees are intrinsically linked to healing and medicine – the very essence of what Akamuti organic skin care products are about. Tree ingredients feature heavily in the Akamuti natural skincare range. The Akamuti team believes trees are essential to the health of both mankind and the planet.
Akamuti natural skincare products reflect the family ethos of a holistic lifestyle, free of harmful manmade chemicals, preservatives and additives. Many of the ingredients used in conventional beauty products are laced with harmful chemicals, which are toxic to both our bodies and the environment. Even talc can be contaminated! Akamuti makes sure every natural beauty product they supply is 100% natural, and free of all toxic chemicals. Any colouring or perfume absorbed is completely natural - and at Nature's Boutique we only supply those suitable for vegans.
Akamuti skin care - natural products, crafted by hand
The affordability of Akamuti natural beauty belies the way in which the products are made. Everything is crafted from start to finish by hand, with no machine intervention.
Akamuti organic beauty ingredients define nature: tree butters; herbs, barks and resins; cold-pressed oils, flower and fruit extracts. These are infused, melted, strained, filtered and hand-processed in small batches, to create a range of moisturising oils, body butters, soaps and other natural skincare products – all totally free of chemicals and preservatives.
Every Akamuti natural beauty product is prepared so it has a long shelf-life, yet is as fresh as possible. None of the products - or importantly their ingredients - have ever been tested on animals.
Akamuti organic skincare – fair trading by design
Akamuti is totally committed to ethical trading and sustainability. Along the way, they are helping to preserve a unique and traditional way of life, enabling small communities to flourish and maintain their culture.
When it comes to natural skin care, products like Akamuti’s Shea and Organic Olive Butter nourish the skin like no conventional cream can. The Shea Butter used in their organic skincare products is wildcrafted by Ghanaian women’s co-operatives from the Karite trees which grow naturally in the region, using techniques that are thousands of years old. Shea butter is a traditional baby product in Ghana, and is a prime ingredient in Akamuti Baby Bottom Butter.Cold-pressed Tropical Oils are another product widely used in Akamuti natural beauty preparations, and similarly sourced from rural women’s co-operatives. The Virgin Red Palm Oil is of exceptional quality, and obtained from non-commercial sources.
Not all Akamuti products are sourced from Africa. Their Organic Wildcrafted Coconut Oil, for example, is obtained from family farms in Indonesia, where it is produced on a small scale. Avoiding the large-scale commercial copra processing methods used elsewhere ensures the oil is of the highest quality, maintains sustainable employment for the island communities, and protects the island environments. Akamuti is proud to be involved in helping to maintain their traditional way of life.
Akamuti organic skincare – from soap to bath salts
One of the most popular Akamuti natural beauty products is the African Black Soap bar - and it is now also available as a liquid soap. Traditionally handcrafted in Ghana, its natural colour is due to the saponification process, which utilises ash from sustainably harvested cocoa pods. Rich in shea butter and coconut oil, it has an amazing moisturising effect and is said to combat a number of skin complaints. Mild enough for babies, it can also be used as a shampoo.
Coloured bath salts generally mean additives. Not so Akamuti Himalayan Bath Salt Chunks, whose natural orange colour is due to the trace elements and minerals they contain. Mined by hand, this natural beauty product is also available on our Nature’s Boutique website.
Whatever you choose from the vast Akamuti natural products range, you can be sure that with plant power and buttery goodness, you will feel fresh and radiant from tip to toe!
